Ashes to Ashes...

Need to warn all Little Staughton cricketers of imminent call up to tour 'down under' after woeful display so far (being optimistic). Not only do we have superior skill levels, but can adapt to pitches with gaping cracks and holes....no longer hopefully. Harmy would not get in our side even if he lived in LS....most of his deliveries would end up in Mossy's garden, and thats without being hit !! PP also turns it more than Gilo (not difficult). KP decision was straight from Roy's rulebook....LBW missing off stump. What do you reckon, should we offer our services ??

Sports Pavilion ?...

Efforts underway to develop a small sports pavilion for playing field that will provide shelter, changing, and storeage facilities. Funding under discussion, but applications will be made to local and national ('awards for all') sources. Intended to encourage and support all sporting activities on the field, but obviously would be a marvellous focus for LSVCC. Any thoughts, suggestions, concerns welcome. Posted by Picasa

2006 Supper and Awards

Captain flew in from Tokyo to join LS cricketers and faithful supporters at The Crown for hog roast and ale. Evening presided over in excellent fashion by Tony Moss who distributed prizes for notable skill (or not...). Among highlights were award and big thanks to Jason Newell, founder member of the 'new' club whose efforts have resulted in Kwik Cricket for Kymbrook school, a cricket net facility on the playing field, and the return of cricket proper on the playing field...we look forward to further developments !! Also notable was the enthusiasm of all the kids who have contributed (Bob, Ryan, Olly (x2), Thomas, Ben, Maya, Mark and others), and all the senior members (awards to jeremy for bowling, and James for batting). Umpires Roy and Martin received book of rules....no comment needed. Evening culminated with donation of signed Northants bat from Martin to the club.....excellent fun, so please post any photos, thoughts etc !! Posted by Picasa

Pitch preparations !!.....

Filled with enthusiasm, and a very generous grant from the Bedfordshire and Luton Community Foundation (£1616, purpose to purchase materials to create a safe cricket wicket at the village ground), we turned out on glorious sunny day to start pitch preparations for next 2007 season. Four hired scarifiers later (literally) and multiple grass cuts, followed by spiking, seeding, and loam top dressing, left pitch looking highly respectable.

Inaugural cricket club awards and supper to be held at The Crown 4pm next sunday.

Highlights of 2006....

Little Staughton Village Cricket club comes into existence after break of several years.....must live in Little Staughton to play. Temporary cricket square created and maintained thru' successful season of 4 matches, won 1, tied 1, lost 2...but good start for all and much fun had by young and old. General fitness levels probably need to be improved for next year in certain quarters !! Watch this space !!
